Does anyone know what I can do??
My girlfriend and I are on vacation 500 miles away.
We got a call yesterday morning that there was a fire in our apartment and that we were being evicted (becasue of a life or death situation) sued and charged with damages as well as the cause of the fire.
However, the fire marshall deemed it an accident….he didn’t evict anyone from the apartment…and no smoke alarms or fire sprinklers went off during this time.
The fire marshall also said that there was never an actual flame. That it was a small smolder and a bit of smoke. That was all.
How is it that we’re being evicted (when our lease states that if there is fire damage we would just be charged the amount of our deposit) and sued for an accident???
This doesnt make much sense does it??/
ALSO, the apartment manager went into my girlfriend’s and my bedroom, opened all of our drawers…took money and a tobacco pipe out of it and confiscated our property.
However, she didn’t have a search warrant or a police officer with her.
Hmmmmmmm fishy huh??
Is anyone has any idea what to do, please please please let me know.
